Ontario would have the strongest protection in the country for cellphone users if legislation being introduced Thursday passes, Liberal MPP David Orazietti said.
The bill would, if passed, cap wireless contract cancellation fees, force providers to use plain language in contracts and bills, and ensure pricing is more transparent and understandable.
It's Orazietti's third attempt to get such a bill passed after introducing two private member's bills.
This effort is more likely to succeed because he has secured the government's support and the new law is enthusiastically backed by Consumer Services Minister Margarett Best.
More than 70% of Ontarians have a cellphone and Canadians pay more for the service than many other developed nations.
