WINNING WINSURFERS 0

Midland Windsurfers Women's Volleyball Team continue their winning ways.

On Saturday April 14, Midland Windsurfers won the Barrie Womens' Volleyball League's final tournament.

They won their pool play with no losses and won the quarter finals and semi finals, again with no sets lost.

The Windsurfers defeated Barrie's Kabuum for the championship in two straight sets. ending the day with a perfect record.

As usual, all players brought their 'A' game.

This was the Windsurfers 18th championship title in 21 tries! The Windsurfers began as a team in 1989 and were final champions of the Simcoe County Women's Volleyball League (SCWVL) 15 out of 17 attempts over the years 1989 to 2008. SCWVL disbanded in 2007/08 after existing for over 25 years and including women's teams from all over Simcoe County.

The Windsurfers joined the Barrie League in 2008-09 and have won that championship title 3 times in 4 years.

Winning 18 championship titles is quite a feat for any team. It is remarkable to continue to play with such consistency over 23 years, losing the championship only 3 times. Over the years there was a core of six women who kept the team together while other players came and went. Three of these women retired from playing in the last five years while the other three are still playing.

It is interesting to note that the roster for this years team would look much like the roster in 1989 as three daughters have taken up where their mothers left off!
