The Penetanguishene Sports Hall of Fame is looking for its next set of elite athletes to induct as they put out the call for nominations for 2009.

David Dupuis said hall of fame executives are looking especially for high school athletes and teams, as there have as yet been no nominations from those two areas.

"It would be neat to have someone take on the cause of one of the nominees and make it like a school project by doing research," said Dupuis. "I think it will build school pride. I think it bolsters a kid today to excel.

"If the basketball team was nominated and went into the hall of fame, I would think that would prove to be a shining example for the current basketball teams."

Curling teams have also yet to be nominated.

"We don't have one curling team in our sports hall of fame," he said.

Dupuis said it's better that the public nominate a person or team, and ad-v ised that people making the nomination ensure their entries are thorough.

"Get as much information as you can," advised Dupuis. "Include letters of support or copies of newspaper articles.

"If you firmly believe in the person or team that you're nominating, make the effort to make it a good package. We've so far got two very excellent packages -- people really went the extra effort."

He said the more information included for the committee to use and weigh in its deliberations, the better the possibility for induction. Other information that can be included, but not limited to photos and press clippings.

It is not the committee's responsibility to research information on possible nominees.
